Spayed Cat Ear Notch. This is the universal sign of a fixed feral cat. Male cats are notched on the left ear and females on the right.
A few years ago when i got my strays fixed at a low cost clinic there procedure was to notch all stray/feral cats on one ear. The cat had already been spayed. The tipped ear contributes to the cat's safety as it signals to animal control officers and neighbors that the cat has been fixed and is being cared for.
Male cats are notched on the left ear and females on the right.
They will examine your cat for a spay scar or tattoo; Alternatively, check its inner ear for a tattoo, but be aware that the letter “m” means that the cat has been microchipped. It is the method of cutting a notch in a cat’s ear after spaying or neutering. Your cat’s ear is made up of three sections referred to as the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear.
